The following founding principles have guided Havens' work since its inception in 1871.
Havens grants are:
- given by one individual to another, rather than through institutions or agencies;
- conferred directly and quickly to an individual in need with a minimum of administrative overhead;
- used to address problems that can be solved with a one-time grant; and
- granted confidentially and anonymously.
Please note, Havens does not consider unsolicited requests for grants. All grants must be made through an Almoner.
